Themes
During Act 1 Scene 3 there is a symbolism of fear. Macbeth gets afraid when the witches mention he will be King. This symbolism is associated with the main theme of the play which is the gradual ruin of a man through his yielding to evil. The theme of ambition also occurs throughout the play. This scene is where Macbeth gained his determination to become king. If the witches had not told him about their prophecy Macbeth would never have got the idea to become king of Scotland by killing anyone in his way. This scene sets up the whole tone for the play.
